Prakash Bhartia is executive vice-president of Natel Engineering in Chatsworth, California. He previously held four director-level positions during a 25-year career with the Department of National Defence in Canada. He also served as director general of Defence Research and Development Laboratory.

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineers, and the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers in India. He was awarded the IEEE’s McNaughton Gold Medal for outstanding contributions to engineering, and was recently honoured in Canada with a Diamond Jubilee medal in recognition of his work. He is also a member of the Order of Canada, and received a Golden Jubilee Medal.

Bhartia graduated with a bachelor of technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and earned his MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba. He served as an associate professor and assistant dean of engineering at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan.

He has had over 200 papers and nine books published, and holds five patents.
